Project Update: The Micron Center for Materials Research

By: Haley Collings, Marketing Director, Hummel Architects

Hummel Architects is excited to announce the start of construction on an exciting project! Together with Anderson Mason Dale Architects, we’ve created a three-story, 95,000-square-foot world-class research facility at the heart of Boise State’s campus. The building will contain the growing Micron School of Materials Science and Engineering. Here, faculty and students will work in the areas of novel materials, biological sciences, and nanotechnology to advance materials research!!

The building has two programmatic components, a three-story laboratory wing and a two-story classroom wing. The classroom wing fronts University Blvd. and is the public face of the building. It contains a 250-seat lecture hall, two 80-seat classrooms, a tutorial space for students and gathering and work spaces for students and faculty. Connecting these spaces, is a large, light-filled gallery space that will show off the school’s research to the rest of the college and the broader University.

The laboratory wing, which is situated behind the classroom wing along Manitou St., contains a variety of different lab spaces, seminar rooms and student break out spaces. These different labs have been tailored to the unique requirements of the different researchers that will be occupying them.

We are thankful to have had the opportunity to collaborate with all the different disciplines that were needed to plan, design and construct this complex building!
